Bush's Tax Speech
I'm watching the Bush tax speech from New Albany, Indiana. I know it's a tax speech because there's a giant sign behind him saying, "Holding the Line on Taxes." He's taking aim at proposed tobacco tax hikes to poay for expansion of the State Childrens Health Insurance Program (the infamous SCHIP). He's said that he trusts people making their own decisions and that his opponents trust the government. Can Bush really reinvent himself as a deficit hawk? That would take some gumption after the last seven years. Still, I think he's got an issue that might at least get him back up towards 40 percent in the polls, especially with the number of attacks in Iraq going down. Whacking spending and the slow pace of Congressional passage of spending bills is a far easier sell than talking about Gen. Petraeus and AL Anbar province.
