That North Korean Nuclear Deal

So they finalized it today. Critics who say the Bush administration has no interewst in diplomacy have to swallow hard and acknowleddge, however belatedly, that they came around to an embrace of diplomacy with North Korea. Maybe we would have gotten here more quickly if the U.S. had not ruled out bilateral talks. But either way it's good news--assuming that this all works out.

Can we cut a similar deal with Iran? Why not let them develop nuclear power under North Korean-style safeguards. Obviously we don't have the leverage over them that we do with North Korea, i.e. they're not starving to death. But as Selig Harrison argued well in The Washington Post this week. sanctions probably won't stop Iran and war seems even worse. Maybe there's a Korean-style solution?
