Utah Mine, Not Isolated
The Huffington Post, the liberal web site where I occasionally post items that I've written for this Portfolio.com has been doing an excellent job following mine safety. Their point is that the Utah accident follows a record of safety woes and that the administration has been cavalier in its handling of mine safety. The federal pointman on mine safety, Richard Stickler, as Josh Marshall notes couldn't get approved by the Republican Senate and was put in for a recess appointment. It's another "You're doing a heckuva job, Brownie." moment and part of the Rove legacy. He won West Virginia for Bush, prying the state from Democratic control. When it came to governing, as Borat would say, "not so much."
