Bummer of a Birthmark, Phil

You're a CEO whose turn-around plan has been widely ridiculed as grossly counter-productive. More of your customers abandon you each month. Your stock continues to tank. One of your largest shareholders is nominating five hostile directors. And yes, Herb Greenberg has already given you the kiss of death.

So what could be more ominous to your survival?

Try this -- your surname rhymes with "soon over."

So it is with Circuit City's Philip Schoonover. While most CEOs start at sea level before sliding down the Five Levels of CEO Media Hell, the beleaguered Mr. Schoonover seems to have started down at level four, and descended quickly from there.

Long providing web amusement for angry investors, Schoonover's unfortunate surname conjures memories of one of Gary Larson's best-known cartoons.

While the drumbeat for Schoonover's personal noggin has been growing for several quarters, Pallavoi Gogoi's current BW story offers the first explicit hed from the MSM business media.

Time for a Change at Circuit City?

And the sub brings it home.

CEO Philip Schoonover has been at the helm during quarter after quarter of dismal performance, and his turnaround plans never gathered strength.

Bummer, Phil.
