Introducing Our New State-of-the-Art Poster Child

Amidst a fairly straight-forward report on Ford's revamped Explorer, BW's Matt Vella has a little fun with the Ford flacks.

Marisa Bradley, a Ford spokeswoman, says the new vehicle is also intended to serve as a "poster child" for the company's recently announced line of so-called EcoBoost engines, which further improve fuel economy via turbo boosting and direct injection technology.

Given the dire condition of the SUV market, the twisting of the traditionally negative meaning of the "poster child" phrase seems particularly unfortunate.

In Bradley's defense, Jack Flack has noticed the phrase is being increasingly used in conversations to indicate something is simply a highly representative sample. Ugh.
