It's easier than ever these days to get a deal on something deluxe. You just have to know where to look. Here, a few of the best deals on meals, private-jet travel, and spa treatments.
Flying Less High
Private air travel has long been a perk of the executive lifestyle. Now, a new set of discounts is making it cheaper.
Blue Star Jets, a private-jet brokerage, is offering a 20 percent discount on flight cards worth $25,000 between now through January 1. That's a savings of $6,250. Just last week,
Air Partner, another jet-charter company, started offering 10 percent discounts on their all-inclusive jet-card pricing.
Joining the Club
Manhattan's venerable
21 Club is making concessions to the recession. The longtime lunch menu was edited two weeks ago to include lighter, more cost-conscious fare, like a roasted turkey and Gruyère sandwich for $29, rather than the blackened prime rib eye with buttermilk onion rings for $45, a staple on the old menu. Dinner guests seated by 6:30 pm will receive six hours of complimentary parking at a nearby garage.
Making a Thrifty Move
In September, New York moving company
FlatRate introduced an "economy" package ($900 to $1,100) that represents a substantial discount over "elite" service (up to $5,000 with an on-site coordinator). The company provides customers with lightly used moving boxes so they can pack their own stuff (FlatRate handles the TV and wardrobe boxes). They also have to unpack it at the other end.
Getting More From a Massage
At 50
Four Seasons properties across the globe, guests booking a standard 50-minute massage on an American Express card between November and March 15 can upgrade to an 80-minute massage for no additional charge.
Prudent Pampering
Cornelia Day Resort on Fifth Avenue is treating clients even better than usual, offering $30 credits on gift cards purchased by December 1. Regular clients will receive emails about the promotion and customers at the spa will have discounts in their lockers. Cornelia is doing sizable corporate deals for the first time: 15 percent off gift-card purchases of $1,500 or more and events booked by the end of November.
Facing the Facts
3Lab, a high-end skin-care company whose products are available in the U.S. exclusively at Barneys or Saks Fifth Avenue, is offering customers a free in-store Perfect Mask facial—normally a take-home product—with any purchase (products run from $15 for soap to $400 for face cream). The promotion is available in Barneys in New York, Dallas, Beverly Hills, San Francisco, or Las Vegas.
