Angelo Mozilo showed Countrywide shareholders that he has a soft heart buried under that deep tan of his. As he declared "an end of an era" at the vote on the sale of the company to Bank of America, Mozilo "got emotional, reached for a water bottle, and said 'Excuse me, this is one of the drawbacks to being Italian,'" according to BusinessWeek. No mention of his "disgusting" customers.

Bank of America chief executive Ken Lewis is gambling $2.8 billion on his purchase of Countrywide, not to mention his inestimable reputation. For that tidy sum, he's getting a deteriorating mortgage portfolio,

It was the sob heard around the world. When an exhausted Hillary Clinton showed emotion during a coffee-shop talk on the campaign trail, the political pundits analyzed her tears until they were blue in the face. Ed Muskie, anyone? Scholastic published all seven of the bestselling Harry Potter books in the U.S. The series is now over. If ever there was a reason for the C.E.O. of a publishing house to cry, that's it.

New York Yankees first baseman Jason Giambi is a big guy in
a tiny thong who is sorry he took human growth hormone. Reason enough for tears? You decide.
