Parents will gather around Christmas trees this year with a little trepidation, wondering if any of the toys they bought are among the millions that manufacturers recalled in 2007. The culprit: lead, a toxic bluish-white metal that causes learning disabilities or brain damage in children. Many tainted toys came from China, where laws are lax and poorly enforced. Sometimes the lead was where one least expected it.
