Back to: Murderers and Rapists and Tyco's Mark Swartz
Two Bad
Former Tyco C.E.O. Dennis Kozlowski (right) was the brash, big-picture guy who built Tyco into a company with $36 billion in annual revenue, while Mark Swartz (left) was his ideal foil: the low-key details man who made sure the deals came together.
Hope Floats
Mark Swartz's wealth makes him a target for other inmates, so he is being kept in protective custody. Last May, he was transferred to Oneida, a medium-security prison in New York State.
Home Front
Swartz's estate in South Florida is a far cry from his new digs at the Oneida medium-security prison. He got his first major bonus in 1995 at $2 million.
Father Figure
From right, Swartz's children Scott (with his wife, Haley), Eric and Andrea with their mother Karen at their South Florida home. Karen visits Mark once a month in prison; each visit is about six hours long. She speaks to Mark on the phone every night, racking up a $750-a-month phone bill.
