The developers of new Songdo City, located 40 miles south of Seoul, have assembled an A-list of partners to help create an urban paradise. There will be a Jack Nicklaus golf course, a school developed by Harvard designers, a Central Park modeled on New York's, and more. Take an inside peek at the plans.

Northeast Asia trade tower
The 984-foot-high tower will serve as the anchor of Gale's vision for Songdo. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, the $500 million building will include an extended-stay hotel and an observation deck on its top floor.

Retail complex
Architect Daniel Libeskind and retail giant Taubman will create more than 2 million square feet of retail space that will cost $400 million to build. The complex will include a department store, Hypermart (a Korean Wal-Mart/Target hybrid), an ice rink, a cinema, and 150-170 midpriced to high-end shops.

Golf course and community
Jack Nicklaus Design has teamed up with Kitson and Partners on a $500 million golf course and residential development. The complex will include 18 holes, a clubhouse and training facility, and 194 villas. "Koreans are big on golf and they're big on him," Gale International C.E.O. John Hynes says of Nicklaus. "He sells more Golden Bear apparel here than anywhere else in the world."

Hospital
Columbia University's New York-Presbyterian Hospital is advising on the development of the $600 million Songdo International Hospital.

First World Towers
Engineering firm Arup joined KPF to build First World Towers, a 2,500-unit, $1.1 billion apartment complex. The high-tech units have systems that will automatically turn on the lights, air conditioning, or heat when one enters the building's elevator.

Songdo International School
Harvard Advisory Group is overseeing the development of the $150 million Songdo International School, a sister institution to Boston's Milton Academy. The school will open its doors to 350 elementary-level students in the fall of 2008 and morph into a high school as those students progress. Tuition will run about $18,000 a year.

Central Park
It wasn't until Jamie von Klemperer escorted a Korean official to Central Park in New York that she embraced the idea of building Songdo around green space. "The idea of having public open space in the center—the most valuable land—shocked the Koreans," she says. Songdo's $200 million Central Park will span 100 acres and house an art museum as well as an aquarium built by Peter Chermayeff.

Incheon bridge
British project management firm AMEC is building the seven-mile, $2 billion bridge that will connect Songdo to Incheon International Airport, which ranks third in the world for the most traffic.
