Back to: Power Dressers: Stacey Snider
Dreamgirls premiere, 2006
Let’s take it from the top. “I know for a fact that her honey highlights are highly coveted in this town,” says Monica Corcoran, style editor at Variety. “She’s never too blond. I don’t think anyone has the moxie to ask her who does her highlights. It would be like asking Steven Spielberg how often he trims his beard.”
A 2002 premiere; a 2004 premiere
Turtlenecks can be frumpy, but pairing them with black leather—on bottom or top—gives them a cooler edge. Still, Marilyn Heston, president of MHA Media, a fashion-focused P.R. firm in Los Angeles, says, “She is very youthful, and the turtlenecks are too covered up for her in my opinion.”
Two Brothers premiere, 2004
Snider is often photographed in friendly florals, but she keeps them structured so they’re not frilly. And note the all-important bag. “It is her most obvious nod to trends,” says Variety’s Corcoran. “She always has the latest Prada, Tod’s, or Gucci. In Hollywood, you’re only as powerful as your latest handbag.”
Golden Globes after-party, 2006
This look is sexy without being vulgar, since the sleeves are long and the neckline narrow. “She never tries to steal the red carpet,” Corcoran says. “You wouldn’t mistake her for an actress, because she never goes all out with a dramatic coif or over-the-top jewels.”
At The 40 Year-Old Virgin
Snider is showing her colors—and they’re tasteful. “It’s refreshing that she doesn’t opt for the Armani black suit, which is still a safe sartorial mainstay for some agents and execs,” Corcoran says. “She prefers a more feminine and approachable look.”
76th Annual Academy Awards
Snider is too smart to get caught up in designer du jour madness. For important events, she turns to Decades, a favorite vintage shop. Owner Cameron Silver recommended this 1950s Jo Copeland gown. It’s elegant but not dull, and the blue clutch—a $1,000-plus Lambertson Truex—provides a hit of color. “She exemplifies the California lifestyle but is never too casual,” Silver says.
At The Bourne Supremacy
Any savvy C.E.O. understands how to amortize costs. If you’re going to invest in an expensive item, you should get your money’s worth by carrying it again, even (especially?) in front of photographers. As for Snider’s black dress, it isn’t as basic as it might look—subtle tucks give it a sophisticated shape.
77th Annual Academy Awards
Another year, another Oscars celebration, another gown from the closets of Cameron Silver. Snider picked this strapless early-1980s Nina Ricci Couture from Decades. The pale color stands out against husband Gary Jones’ classic tuxedo. “Spot on!” says MHA Media’s Heston. “I prefer Stacey in chic, classic choices like this ecru strapless gown.”
