J.W. Marriott, Jr.

Overview

Mr. Marriott is Chairman of the Board of Directors and our Chief Executive Officer. He joined Marriott Corporation in 1956, became President and a director in 1964, Chief Executive Officer in 1972 and Chairman of the Board in 1985. Mr. Marriott also is a director of the United States Naval Academy Foundation and Chairman of the President's Export Council. He serves on the board of trustees of the National Geographic Society and The J. Willard & Alice S. Marriott Foundation, the executive committee of the World Travel & Tourism Council, and is a member of the National Business Council. Mr. Marriott has served as our Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since the Company's inception in 1997, and served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Company's predecessors from 1985. He is the father of John W. Marriott III. Mr. Marriott has been a director of the Company or its predecessors since 1964.
