Mr. Hamamoto has been one of our directors and our president and chief executive officer since October 2003. Mr. Hamamoto co-founded NorthStar Capital in July 1997, having co-founded and previously been a partner and co-head of the Real Estate Principal Investment Area at Goldman, Sachs & Co. In 1988, Mr. Hamamoto initiated the effort to build a real estate principal investment business at Goldman, Sachs & Co. under the auspices of the Whitehall Funds. Mr. Hamamoto currently serves as co-chairman of the board of directors and a co-chief executive officer of NorthStar Capital, and as chairman of the board of Morgans Hotel Group Co. Mr. Hamamoto received a B.S. from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. David T. Hamamoto, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, has been appointed Chairman of the Board.
