Cynthia Carroll (51) joined BP's board on 6 June 2007. She started her career at Amoco and in 1989 she joined Alcan, where in 2002 she was appointed president and chief executive officer of Alcan's primary metals group and an officer of Alcan, Inc. She was appointed as chief executive of Anglo American plc, the global mining group, in March 2007. She is also a director of De Beers s.a. and Anglo Platinum Ltd.
