Overview
Educare is a federally tax-exempt, non-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing scholarships to children who attend independent schools in Arizona . By law, Educare must allocate at least 90% of its revenues to scholarships. Does that mean I can write a check for up to $1000 to Educare and take it as a credit from what I pay in state taxes? Yes. At no cost to you, you can help fund scholarships for children attending independent schools in Arizona . Educare also accepts most major credit cards. How do I apply for my tax credit? Simply contribute to Educare by December 31 of the year you will take the credit and you will be sent the forms necessary to claim the credit on your Arizona state tax return. Why should I contribute? You can provide scholarships with funds you would otherwise pay the government. Why give your hard-earned money to the state when you don't have to? Must a taxpayer have a child in school in order to claim this credit? No. Any Arizona taxpayer can give. Ask your friends and relatives to give, too! Can two married taxpayers filing a joint return both be eligible to claim the maximum credit? No. The law allows only the $1000 maximum credit for taxpayers choosing to file a joint return. Taxpayers that file married/separate returns can claim only one-half of the credit that would have been allowed on the joint return. I don't itemize my deductions; can I still use the credit?...
