The Banjo Shop

Mountain Music is celebrating 37 years of continuous service to the Bluegrass Community this year! Founded in 1970 as "The Banjo Shop", the business has grown and diversified considerably over the last three decades. During the early years our primary focus was on building custom 5-string banjos and making reproductions of classic pre-war 5-string banjo necks along with a lot of repair work and restorations of older instruments. Today the bulk of our business is in sales of new Bluegrass Intruments. We now stock over 50 models of 5-string banjos! -- including: Deering, Gibson, Vega, Ome, Morgan Monroe, Gold Tone, and Gold Star. Our inventory of fine guitars includes over 70 models from builders like C.F. Martin, Bourgeois, Taylor, Austin, Dobro, Blueridge, and Takamine. We are also stocking a nice selection of mandolins, violins, and bass guitars. The store is still doing a limited amount of custom work and, of course, we continue to service everything we sell! In addition, we have added a small Bluegrass and Traditional Music CD & DVD Department as well as a digital recording studio for our Bluegrass customers to do their demo CDs in. For all the "Old-Timers", you might be interested to know that the original "Banjo Shop" is still around! In fact we have completely renovated the old place and continue to do most of our repair work there.
