Retailers Realize Business Value from Teradata and Manthan Partnership
Teradata's Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and Manthan's ARC Business Intelligence Solution Launch Best Practice Analytics in Australia and New Zealand
MIAMISBURG, Ohio, Aug 26, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC),
the global leader in enterprise
data warehousing, today announced a retail
industry partnership with Manthan Systems, a producer of analytic
solutions for the retail industry. The combination of Teradata's
centralized, integrated data warehouse platform with Manthan's
ARC 5.8 retail business intelligence solution enables large retail store
chains to analyze and report on financial and operational performance to
identify key insights, take corrective actions and improve business
results.
One of the joint customers shared by Teradata and Manthan Systems is Haggen
Supermarkets in the United States. The business intelligence
platform included an enterprise
retail data model and business intelligence (BI) functionality that
covers store operations, category management, inventory and promotions.
The system also has been extended to human resources, payroll and loss
prevention analytics. It was deployed in all 32 Haggen stores across
Washington and Oregon in just 16 weeks --
launched in 2007.
"Implementing a data warehouse is not a
destination, it is a journey," said Harrison
Lewis, chief information officer, Haggen Supermarkets, in
a recent magazine interview. "The
retail-specific capabilities of ARC and the high performance of Teradata
have given our business managers a powerful platform for retail analysis
that aid their category management, operations performance and inventory
management decision-making processes. The rapid deployment of this
solution has helped us realize business value much faster than we would
have with other generic options. In our highly competitive business, we
have to respond to the market very quickly and cost effectively. This
solution has made it possible to do that."
Manthan's ARC 5.8 running on the powerful
Teradata intelligence platform provides a way for retailers like Haggen
to keep their fingers on the pulse of the business and make faster,
better, and more confident decisions. This combination continuously
improves retailers' ability to identify
external changes, such as a shift in consumer buying patterns --
while also identifying the effects of escalating operating costs on
revenue and profit.
"Retailers can expect cutting edge performance
management capabilities like superior dash-boarding, score-carding and
benchmarking that can transform decision-making from reporting to 'actionable
analytics.' This joint solution delivers
analytics in real time, as they need it, to store and operations
executives and simplifies the powerful underlying technology to give
users a rich and easy-to-use analytic front end,"
explained Manthan's chief technology officer, Mr. Vikas Gupta.
"The joint Teradata and Manthan ARC solution
truly raises the collective intelligence and visibility of retail
organizations," said Noel Pettitt, vice
president, South Pacific Area, Teradata. Petit added that at Haggen,
after the installation of the Manthan and Teradata information system,
business reporting process cycle times were reduced from 24 hours to
less than 5 seconds -- providing clear economic benefits and adding to
the retailer's competitive advantage.
