Shoppingtown Mall
Overview
For more than half a century, ShoppingTown Mall has provided a destination for shopping, dining and entertainment to the Town of Dewitt and the greater Syracuse, NY market. This upstate New York retail landmark has evolved over time, evolving with the surrounding market and the retail industry. ShoppingTown Mall opened its doors in 1954 as an open-air strip mall, expanding and changing over time to correspond to the growing popularity of enclosed shopping centers and shoppers' changing preferences. In 1974, ShoppingTown Mall was converted to an enclosed shopping center and the Sears wing was added. The Center expanded again in 1992 to its current layout of nearly 1.1 million square feet. More than a shopping center, ShoppingTown Mall has served as a home to both national and local retailers, businesses and community services, including the original ShoppingTown Barber Shop. Another original member of ShoppingTown Mall, the Dewitt Community Library continues to serve the community 45 years after first opening its doors in 1962.
