OfficeMax Brings Power to the Penny with Back-to-School Promotion

OfficeMax has 1 cent offers every week and lowers prices on more than 100 popular back-to-school supplies. Promo earns praise from Americans for Common Cents

NAPERVILLE, Ill., July 17, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- With prices rising for
necessities from gas to groceries, OfficeMax(R) Incorporated (NYSE: OMX), a
leader in office products and services, today announced the rollout of a
special price promotion campaign designed to make back-to-school shopping more
affordable and show that the penny still has power at OfficeMax. Throughout
the back-to-school season, OfficeMax will offer special single-cent products
and special penny bundle offers on key school supplies at all retail locations
nationwide.

In addition, OfficeMax is lowering the price on more than 100 popular
back-to-school supplies on items such as 3-5 subject notebooks, pencils and
pocket portfolios for the back-to-school season.

"With the school year approaching, we understand the difficulty parents
and teachers face in just providing basic supplies for each child," said Ryan
Vero, Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer at OfficeMax.
"Our 'Power to the Penny' promotion and aggressive pricing allows us to give
parents a break from rising prices, while ensuring that their children are
well stocked with essential supplies as they get ready for a new school year."

Americans for Common Cents, a Washington DC-based organization focused on
currency education, supports OfficeMax's endorsement of the penny. "We are
encouraged to see a national retailer promoting the penny and publicizing its
worth to consumers," said Mark Weller, Director. "Pennies are an important
form of currency and we appreciate that OfficeMax values their worth in
today's economy."

Each week, OfficeMax will feature a special "penny offer" that varies from
a single-priced item for one cent to bundle offers that include a special one
cent item with the purchase of one or more regularly priced products.
Customers can see the weekly specials in OfficeMax's weekly circular
advertisements or online at http://www.officemax.com/penny.

OfficeMax features a full range of back-to-school products and services to
provide a one-stop shopping experience for time-pressed parents. In addition
