Overview
The Montana Water Trust (MWT) was founded in 2001 to pioneer creative, cooperative solutions to the chronic dewatering of Montana's rivers, lakes, and streams. We partner with landowners and other stakeholders to develop win-win solutions that result in more water instream for Montana's native fish species and communities. MWT is the first and only water trust in the state of Montana, and the only group in the state entirely dedicated to incentive-based streamflow restoration. Over the past seven years we have tailored our approach to Montana's unique water law, ecosystems, and landowners to become a model for comprehensive streamflow restoration and conservation in the West.
