Comcast Partners With Four Vermont Nonprofits on Annual Day of Community Service
Local Volunteers Join Over 50,000 Nationwide On Annual Comcast Cares Day
BURLINGTON, Vt., May 3, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX News Network/ -- More than 300 local Comcast
employees and their family members and friends turned out in force today to
volunteer at four Vermont nonprofit organizations from Winooski to Rutland as
part of Comcast Cares Day, the company's annual day of community service and
one of the nation's largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts.
Projects included sprucing up the Bennington Little League's ball fields,
building community gardens and cleaning up parks in Winooski, painting the
clubhouse at the Brattleboro Boys & Girls Club and painting and making
improvements to the Rutland Community Cupboard.
"Comcast Cares Day is the cornerstone celebration of a 365-day a year
commitment to the communities where our customers and our employees live and
work," said Dan Blakeman, Vice President of Comcast in Vermont. "There is
nothing more rewarding than giving back, and I'm grateful to the Comcast
volunteers who have donated their time to help their neighbors throughout
Vermont."
This year's Comcast Cares Day attracted more than 4,700 Comcast employees
and their families to 50 different sites across New England, including the
four Vermont locations. New England volunteers joined more than 50,000
Comcast employees at nearly 500 community sites in 37 states and the District
of Columbia, donating 300,000 volunteer hours of service and helping Comcast
reach the milestone of one million total hours of service donated in seven
Comcast Cares Days.
Beth Baldwin Page, Executive Director of the Boys & Girl Club of
Brattleboro remarked, "We're so honored to be included in the Comcast Cares
Day tradition. It's vitally important that our facility remain properly
maintained. The projects completed by Comcast volunteers will help us
accomplish this goal, and they are efforts that would have taken our own staff
months to complete. In addition, our patrons will enjoy the new, vibrant
paint colors when they return to the club on Monday. To say that we appreciate
the efforts of Comcast volunteers is an understatement!"
The Comcast Foundation will donate more than $1.5 million in grants to
local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of the
employees and family members who volunteered on Comcast Cares Day. The grants
will help Comcast's community partners continue their mission of serving the
community throughout the year.
