Brocade and Oracle Collaborate to Optimize Virtual Machine Performance Over Data Center Networks
Companies to Demonstrate Oracle VM Capabilities Enhanced through Brocade Adaptive Networking Services
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept 23, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- At Oracle OpenWorld
2008, Brocade(R) (Nasdaq: BRCD) is announcing continued collaboration with
Oracle to help optimize Oracle applications and databases running Oracle(R)
Enterprise Linux and Oracle VM with advanced capabilities delivered through
Brocade's Data Center Fabric (DCF) architecture and its broad portfolio of
data center networking products.
Specifically, Brocade will demonstrate how to simplify work load mobility
by combining Brocade's Adaptive Networking services with Fibre Channel N_Port
virtualization to cost-effectively consolidate, virtualize and automate the
storage infrastructure supporting the Oracle VM server virtualization
software. These capabilities are designed to simplify management and lower
costs by reducing the number of dedicated and discrete networks needed for
individual applications. Brocade will also show how Oracle customers can use
these technologies to more easily migrate applications and databases between
virtual servers without compromising quality of service (QoS).
"Today's virtualized environments present unique opportunities as well as
significant challenges from the initial deployment to ongoing management of
the data center," said Harry Petty, director of Marketing for the Brocade
Server Division. "Working closely with Oracle, we are very pleased to be among
the first in the data center networking industry to be able to help optimize
Oracle applications and database workloads. Brocade Adaptive Networking
services can help customers maximize performance and significantly improve
reliability in virtualized environments."
Adaptive Networking services are advanced data center fabric technologies
and an integral component of the Brocade DCF architecture. This strategic
framework provides a robust foundation for evolving data centers as more IT
organizations merge server-to-storage, server-to-server, and storage-to-
storage connectivity onto a common network connecting virtualized devices.
Adaptive Networking uses deep network intelligence to anticipate congestion
and to dynamically make adjustments in the fabric so that application traffic
continues to flow as needed. Adaptive Networking introduces new networking
services such as fabric-based QoS, Traffic Management, Fabric Dynamic
Profiling, and, in the future, Resource Recovery.
"Data center networks are a key asset for customers, helping them leverage
shared resources more efficiently while improving data mobility, protection,
and backups," said Monica Kumar, senior director, Linux and Open Source
Product Marketing, Oracle. "These requirements become even more important in
virtual environments. Teaming with Brocade enables Oracle customers to
leverage the advanced, end-to-end data center networking concepts and features
that Brocade offers."
Brocade, also a member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork, will be at the Oracle
Solutions Pavilion in the Moscone South Exhibition Hall at Oracle OpenWorld
2008, billed as the world's largest gathering of Oracle customers, partners,
developers, and technology enthusiasts. The event is taking place at the
Moscone Center in San Francisco from Sept. 21 through 25.
