Nintendo says holiday sales are hot, warns of shortages.

Nintendo says it sold 350,000 Wii game consoles in the United States last week, up from 300,000 the previous week.

That appears to be the strongest sales for the console since its debut last November, when it sold 600,000 units in eight days.

The president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, told the Associated Press that holiday sales are off to a "fantastic start." But he warned of possible shortages, saying that Nintendo has already ramped up production to 1.8 million units per month and cannot increase capacity.

"Consumers are buying every game we can put into the system," he said.

At the current rate, Nintendo, based in Kyoto, Japan, will have sold 17.5 million Wii consoles worldwide by the time its fiscal year ends on March 31.

The Wii is competing against Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 in the videogame-console market.
