Closing Glance: Computer, peripheral stocks

Computer and peripheral stocks mostly gained Monday, with shares of Apple Inc. rising several days ahead of its planned release an updated, cheaper iPhone that will work over faster wireless networks.

On Friday, Apple will release a new version of the iPhone that works on 3G, or third-generation, wireless networks, and supports satellite navigation. An 8-gigabyte model is priced at $199, and a 16 GB model is priced at $299.

How some key computer and peripheral stocks fared in trading Monday:

Apple Inc. rose $5.04, or 3 percent, to $175.16.

Hewlett-Packard Co. rose 56 cents to $44.

International Business Machines Corp. rose $1.96 to $121.50.

Lexmark International Inc. fell 61 cents to $32.
