Some high-profile Wall Street executives did not make our list of the top 50 foundation givers. Below, their explanations.
Condé Nast Portfolio's look at the most and least philanthropic on Wall Street. Read More
Stan O'Neal
Formerly of Merrill Lynch
Gave $130,000 through his foundation in 2006. But a company spokesperson says O'Neal is a "seven-figure" donor outside the charity and has been particularly generous to the Bronx Preparatory Charter School, in New York.
Eddie Lampert
ESL Investments
Set up a $2.5 million foundation last year. But he'll have to give away more than that on an annual basis if he wants to crack the top 50. ESL says Lampert gives to a variety of charitable causes, both directly and through his foundation.
Stephen Schwarzman
Blackstone Group
His foundation has $63,424; Blackstone says it's defunct. But he made a 2004 pledge to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in Washington: $10 million over six years.
Richard Fuld
Lehman Brothers
Records show $35,772 in his foundation. But Lehman says the foundation is not the primary vehicle for Fuld's philanthropy. Fuld gives in excess of $10 million a year, the firm says, but prefers to keep his contributions private.
