Los Angeles County Museum of Art's show of Belgian installation artist Francis Alÿs and sculptor John McCracken's show at Zwirner Gallery in New York.

ALSO ON THE CALENDAR
Fashion Week in Manhattan, September 5 to September 12; Joel and Ethan Coen's new comedy, Burn After Reading; performances by Beck, Robert Plant, and Alison Krauss at the Austin City Limits music festival, which runs September 26 to September 28.

It's the last chance to see "Sterling Ruby: Supermax 2008" at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles—the show closes September 19. There's also the opening of the New Acropolis Museum in Athens, designed by Bernard Tschumi.

Fiestas Patrias in San Miguel de Allende, north of Mexico City, where Pittman lives part-time. The holidays run for most of September and include El Grito de Dolores, a celebration reenacting the call to arms for Mexico's War of Independence.

"Get to see 15 of the best new indie films a year before they hit theaters—if ever."
