Where the Tech World Gathers
Obama Blacklisted From Popular New App
Ever been to a meetup? If you haven't and you're in the tech or entrepreneurial spaces, you might be missing out on just the networking opportunity your business needs. According to stats released this week by Meetup.com, the tech community now gathers 1.5 million RSVPs per month for almost 300,000 different events, providing a network of like-minded people for almost any activity a tech startup could embark upon.
Following up on this week's State of the Tech Union address given by Meetup.com cofounder Scott Heiferman, Kathryn Fink, Meetup.com's community development leader, had this to say:
One community on Meetup that we've been keeping our eye on is technology. While it's still not the largest topic on Meetup, it's definitely booming—and no surprise, since the tech and Internet industries are live wires right now. Where there's industry, there's a community of people making it happen.
To see what groups are making it happen and how many are involved in the global network, take a look here at the tech community numbers as Meetup.com and Portfolio.com break it down.
