Alone in Amsterdam, I feel so at home. I took the train to Rotterdam to meet with an EO colleague and listen to his business and see if we may be able to share a platform that will assist in spreading the word of his business. I believe that if I give to others without asking anything in return that it will come back tenfold. At dinner with another EO member, I had the opportunity to pick his brain for resources and platforms that could help build my new business. He was the one person in the world that I knew would be the right person to talk with, and I'm so glad that I did decide to come here.

There is so much debate right now on how social media can and should be used. My colleague filled me in on the latest information in Europe from the conference that he went to. Apparently, there was a ruling that if a blogger is paid to post something, that fact must be disclosed. That's a big deal in the "New Media" world. There’s an open question about the effectiveness and ethics of paid postings. It is, however, a reality.

OK, I did take a day to venture around Amsterdam and do some shopping before meeting my EO/MIT Entrepreneurial Masters Program classmate at Envy, an upscale cozy restaurant, for a chef-prepared meal. Over a delicate multicourse meal we discussed business, relationships, dreams, and passions. We tossed around many ideas throughout the night. I was so energized by our conversation and the ambiance. As we were leaving, my friend said that I was a real Amsterdamer because I chose to walk back to my hotel despite the rain. That was my favorite comment of the trip.

The next day (Thanksgiving), I was in awe as we toured this clean, modern office and saw the amazing Dutch design work that they all produced. The list of clients span the globe. Somehow I would like to work with him one day.

One train ride and a blustery jaunt later, I was in Leiden knocking on the door of two high-school classmates. I came in and started helping in the kitchen, carved the turkey, set the food out, and ate a traditional Thanksgiving meal with seven strangers and my two classmates and their children. With the integration of social media, specifically Facebook, I've reconnected with many classmates, snowboarding friends, and random wanderers like myself. It makes the world feel so small and cozy; anything is possible.

This trip confirmed my status as a global citizen and the desire to remain one for the rest of my life. I can't imagine ever having a business with geographical borders and no cultural considerations. I love the idea of learning what works in different cultures and leveraging that to move revolutionary ideas forward. I'm grateful to have this opportunity to connect with people face to face. Thank you, British Airways!

Today it is official, I, the founder of BabyLegs, have stepped down as president! This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter in my ever-changing, adventure-filled life.

Nicole Donnelly was until recently president of BabyLegs, a Seattle-based company that provided colorful leg warmers for babies. She's now getting ready to embark on new ventures including writing and speaking on the global economy.
